Video of the week: Richie Parker defies limb loss as Hendrick Motorsports engineer

“How do you get through your day?”

That’s the question posed in this Video of the Week, released by ESPN, as it follows Richie Parker through a regular workday at Hendrick Motorsports.

But to many, Parker’s daily grind doesn’t look so regular — it looks spectacular.

In 1983, Parker was born without arms, a condition known as congenital limb deficiency.

While this could discourage many from pursuing their dreams, it doesn’t prevent Parker from doing anything he sets out to do. This includes working as a vehicle engineer, a job he’s held for eight years, for the most successful organization in NASCAR.

“Every step of the way in life, there have been people that said that I can’t do things,” Parker says. “Said that I couldn’t ride a bicycle. People that said that I couldn’t live on my own. Couldn’t get a good job and support myself or I couldn’t go to college and graduate.

“I don’t listen too much to people when they tell me I can’t do something. There’s not a whole lot that’s going to stand in my way.”

Watch the video below to learn the rest of Parker’s incredible and inspiring story:
