Video of the week: Amputee bride receives early wedding gift

Weddings are normally a time for celebration, but Tina Byrd — with the help of a local bridal salon — has a lot more to celebrate than just her impending nuptials.

Byrd, a resident of Asheboro, N.C., unexpectedly lost her legs five years ago in a car accident.

Despite her injuries, Byrd has kept an upbeat attitude and “hasn’t let anything stop her from living life to the fullest,” according to Liz Crawford of WFMY News 2. The Greensboro, N.C., station has been following Byrd’s story since her accident.

And Janet Duncan, the owner of Bridal Mart in Burlington, N.C., has been watching.

When Byrd became engaged to fiancé Kenny Sasser in February, Duncan knew she needed to help. She reached out to Byrd and offered her a wedding dress for a discounted rate. As for any alterations, they will be made to the dress for free.

For Byrd, the dress brings her one step closer to her happily ever after.

“I’m going to sit on a stool, so I can actually have a full wedding dress to … think about being Cinderella for the day,” Byrd says.
